No other area of the law is as emotionally charged and as draining to the parties as family law.
In over 30 years of practice I have never understood what it is that makes people who ostensibly love each other one moment, suddenly in the next moment, hate each other's guts and want to do emotional and financial harm to the other. Not every relationship ends in such acrimony and bitterness, but many do.
I've gathered together some quotes that are relevant and descriptive of the wasteland that separation and divorce can be.
"When two people decide to get a divorce, it isn't a sign that they "don't understand" one another, but a sign that they have, at last, begun to" Helen Rowland
"Ah, yes, divorce ... from the Latin word meaning to rip out a man's genitals through his wallet" Robin Williams
“The truth was, the more he got portrayed as an unprincipled, ruthless pr**k, the more clients flocked to him. Because when it came to divorce, people wanted a ruthless pr**k. They lined up for one.” Michael Crichton, Next
"Let's be blunt: If you hire a divorce lawyer today, there is a good chance you will hire a bankruptcy lawyer within two or three years." Gene Meyer
... and one positive quote:
In every marriage more than a week old, there are grounds for divorce. The trick is to find, and continue to find, grounds for marriage. Robert Anderson
